Thug Life
I’m here today to reveal a confession
Not one I’m particularly proud fond of
But nonetheless, a confession
I was a gangster.
A straight up g
No one walked around safe within my hood
In my defense,
I didn’t choose the thug life, the thug life chose me
When I was a toddler I walked across an intersection to a farm
Just cause I liked the horses.
I got lost in the mall so many times, the mall cops had my mom’s number on speed dial
Kroger’s intercom lady knew me by name
And, One time I got so bored, I dumped out all the rice just to have a snow day
I fell out of a two-story window because I wanted to fly like a G6
But then again, I didn’t choose the thug life, the thug life chose me
Sure I got in trouble plenty of times
I set a record of 12 principal visits in kindergarten
In the first grade, I only got 3 gold stars instead of 5
When the sign said take only one, I stole 5 crunch bars, 3 snickers, 8 Dum-dums before my parents got a phone call from the Davidson’s saying I was too greedy to save any candy for the other children
I got 3 Unsatisfactories on my 3rd grade report card
And even flicked off my teacher
Accidentally, but it still counts
Once again, I didn’t choose the thug life, the thug life chose me
Fights were a natural part of my life.
I punched a kid because he kept calling me Chinese
I bit a fat kid because he said I was stupid
I wrestled my friend because he cheated in Pokemon but he wouldn’t admit it because I was beating him
Guess I’m just a thug
But calling yourself something that you are not
Is not convincing enough right?
The bluff is too weak
The façade too thin
The mask too brittle
However, titles are bestowed not seized
Through an overthrow of power or a clever coupe-de-tat
And if that is the case, maybe something inside of you needs to change
Just like me
But then again, I didn’t choose the thug life
It chose me
