Through Their Eyes

Look, can you see through the eyes of a child
Can you see the world through the tears in their eyes
Caused by choices they have no control over
Made by people who should love and protect
Can you see the pain, the sorrow, the shame
Can you see the desire for change, for a new life, for a new day
Caused by cold nights in a cold world
Wondering if life will be good again
Can you see the fear, the uncertainty, a desire for normalcy
Can you see the darkness, sadness, the mistrust
In the eyes of one so young
Forced to grow old before their time has come
Can you see hope, joy, the happiness in their tears
Can you see good times, laughter, the shedding of years
Caused by prayers and wishes come true
When life becomes what only dreaming could rend
Can you see sorrow, grief, heartbreak
Can you see time running out, a world full of doubt
Caused by an untimely end
The future destroyed after a second of joy
Can you see the light, the spark in the night
Can you see the hand, the love, the desire to help
A love that can mend all things broken
The one who is there to understand that what is shattered is beautiful and can be made whole
If only you LOOK and see through their eyes
