Flashback to January, two thousand and ten.
Diagnosed with cancer, thought the world was gonna end.
Best friend’s life, put into Jeopardy
The battle as expected was nowhere near pretty.

Shared lots of stories, good times and all.
Now our relationship was being put up against the wall.
What do I say? What should I do?
It’s fair to say we hadn’t been down this avenue.

Wanted to be strong, wanted to be there
Even when he started losing all of his hair
Just like he’d been there for me three years prior
Chemo had his blood burning like a fire.

Never complained, never asked why
Even with percentages against him so high
Never lost his faith, nor his desire
He was never really down, the bar kept climbing higher.

Not a chance he could lose, this was certain
Talkin’ with the angels, but he was just flirtin’
Hotline with God, talkin’ above
Said “peace” to Leukemia, flew like a Dove.

I’ll tell you man, he’s absolutely insane.
You should have been there, he’d a blown your brain.
So much power and so much hunger
I probably woulda begged to be six feet under.

I wish I only knew, could take some of the pain
Sometimes the flowers are worth all the rain.
Especially when it happens to one of your dude’s
No question you’d be there with what he’s goin’ through.

I remember the conversations, up til’ 2
He’s couldn’t sleep at Roswell and we’d be swapping our views.
School in the morning on only four hours sleep
It was totally worth it, discussion’s so deep.

You had some dark days where the sun didn’t shine
Push came to shove and the light came out on time
Walked through hell and came back alive
Did we ever even question if everything would turn out fine?

Nothing but character, he’s one class act
Probably too good for me as a matter of fact
Man I’m so lucky, in more than one way
My best friend battled, won, and now is here to stay.

Now I’ll admit I could get a little stupid.
We both can agree, this is point is undisputed.
You helped me through it all, you helped me get better.
Most of my life I owe to you as a debtor.

I want to thank you for everything you did for me
As that ole’ saying goes the best things are free
I always got your back, but I’m sure you know that
Me and you, more effective, than a U.S ground attack

Best friends forever, well that’s an understatement.
When it comes to us we talkin’ strictly ‘bout greatness
Will always be my brother and always be my dude.
You wanna mess with us, then you’re gonna be screwed.
