Thrifty Romance

Location

The smell of "already been worn"

Decade after Decade

of clothes

That have seen and experienced

Years upon years

Before I was born

Before I was even thought of.

Although physically clean,

Spritually,

They are covered with the dust

of the ages upon ages

That only adds to their

Vintage appeal

That appeals to the youth

Who, nowadays. gain a history lesson

or two

Or hear a bit of the story behind

These "old rags", "tacky trinkets",

And other forgettable trends of the past.

And as I rummage through

The 60's, the 70's, the 80's,

The years of my birth and the new millineum,

Not necessarily looking for anything

But hoping, praying that

Something will find me

Like you found me

Or maybe I found you..

Cause who am I to assume

That you weren't just rummaging

Not looking for anything in particular

When here I was

And now here we are..

Just like walking into one of those museums of

Outdated, yet perfectly useful

Collection of lost and forgettable things.

We were not something that

One would expect to find together

in one space

Beause in reality,

We were in two different times,

Two different places,

Almost two different decades.

Yet emotionally,

we were hand in hand,

Left leg and right leg,

Elbows, knees, and toes.

There we were...

If we were

Two articles of clothing in any other store

We wouldn't even in the same department,

But in this ageless store,

We are two peas in a pod.

And just as time passed,

We passed by one another.

Eventually going our separate ways.

Yet as I walk

And everytime I walk into

one of those stores filled with

History, memories, life lessons, laughs, cries, and

Ageless wisdom.

I think of you.
