Three Under the One Way

Three coal black figures awaiting under the one way signs
Two women and a man
Their faces are ash
Their eyes are worn down until all you can see are slight indentations.
They do not smile as they stand beneath the one way signs.
They look sad
and all-knowing.
Like three Fates discussing the lives
and deaths of innocents
or not so innocent.
Or guardians to a world unknown,
to a world of nightmares.
If a lonely person tried to touch a shoulder for directions
They would crumble.
Their mouths are drawn tight
Their noses are hooked.
Their coats are long and foreboding.
When the people around them walk by
they watch
whispering amongst themselves
without opening their mouths.
They talk about each person’s destined demise
and they wait.
With unseeing eyes
Under the one way signs.
