For Those We Love
We all go the distance
Just to do what we must,
And so we do what they want,
So we may earn their trust.
We all share secrets,
Some more than others.
We tell them our truths,
Just to show that we are brothers.
We do what we have to for the ones we love,
Death could come today and we would welcome him,
Just to prove ourselves,
We would drink from the deadly rim.
We are shattered by love,
Hurting the ones we meant to protect.
But then we realize we have to release them like a flying dove.
What has been taken can never be given back
And yet we still fight,
Trying to keep what we love close,
Because our soul is a spark longing to ignite.
You may not have the knowledge for such work
But we all know you will try.
We know you would be there,
Even if you know you may die.
Love controls us,
It takes over and fogs our mind.
Did I not say no good would come of it?
But we are nothing but blind.
Then we are thrown away to feel nothing but pain,
Betrayed and broken,
Left alone to starve for love,
Resisting to be woken.
We then dream so we cannot feel,
Because for a while the thin wailing would die away
Just until we love again,
Then we will all go the distance once more and this time stay.
We all go the distance
Just to do what we must,
And so we do what they want,
So we may earn their trust.
We all share secrets,
Some more than others.
We tell them our truths,
Just to show that we are brothers.
