Thinning Smile

Torn and mistaken

cuts cover her arm

to herself it seems

she does all the harm.

She fears too quickly

scared to believe

she has any other purpose

than the hate she recieves.

But what do they see

from the outside looking in,

a smile that's faking

as she cries to be thin.

After each meal

to the bathroom she goes

a finger in her throat

and up her food flows.

The mirror shows truth

but her mind shows the lies

a fat girl she sees

no matter how hard she tries.

To take her own life

now that is the question

to show all her hurt

and teach them a lesson.

But what does the curtain hide

other than scars?

That despite all the hurt

she's reaching for the stars.
