There are certain
things, little
things that I notice when we’re quiet in the way that speaks volumes
Sometimes I need conversation and meaning, but that quiet is one
thing that equals both, as if it could
Need and unrealistically brown eyes create silence that reflects in exactitude the
things that fill my head
The tan that ends on the side of your hand and reminds me of how you are
Because that’s got to be some kind of parallel, hasn’t it?
And the way your eyebrows scrunch when my nails drag across your skin
The same way you react when I take too long staring and don’t kiss you
These little
things are
things that I know I mirror in some way, some insignificant little
things that you might notice, that I might selfishly want you to notice
Because these
things that you do, like the threads in my favorite shirt that start to fray from time and attention,
These
things are the wires that make up the important things
