they are more/constellations

in a generation where having the newest clothes

and the newest cars seem to correspond with

the acquaintances acquired,

remember this ragged sweater and

this rattling station wagon have stories too.

they are more than just a price tag.

in a community where competition is

the end-all, be-all, and a loss is only

a lower outcome than the opposition,

remember the trials this team had too.

they are more than just a score.

in an industry where models teeter down the runway

in six inch heels and sparkling swimwear,

remember the girls trembling on the scale,

these girls are beautiful too.

they are more than just a number.

they are their branches of thought that reach out and

leave their traces along the road less traveled by.

they are their morning commute as they travel to work,

singing their favorite song as they bridge the gap between the past and present.

they are their favorite books with dog-eared pages, coffee stains,

and a sense of belonging in the reader’s arms.

they are their mother’s child, their father’s child,

and the Lord’s child too.

they are configured of stardust.

together, they are constellations.
