They Are Just Like Us

They walk

They talk

They run

They play and have fun

They eat and sleep

They laugh and weep

They form lasting relationships

Sometimes they get left out on their own

They have a family

They are brothers and sisters

Nieces and Nephews

Aunts and Uncles

Parents

Grandparents

They are misunderstood and mistreated

They are hunted down and used for entertainment

They are the animals we share this blue and green planet with

They are just like us

So why do we take them from their homes

Put them in cages and tanks to amuse ourselves

Or steal their fur so we can keep warm

Why do we tear down their homes to make room for our skyscrapers

Pollute their communities to sustain our means of energy

Why do we kill them for food

When we can get the same nutrients from nuts, vegetables, and fruits

This was their home before it was ours

We need to respect them
