These are a Few of My Favorite Things
Mama’s on the couch, leaning against Daddy
Heads tossed back, laughter mingling together
My brothers arguing good naturedly
My sister curled up away from me, sleeping
These are a few of my favorite things
An open book in my lap, pages worn, torn
Music, slow and heady, background to our life
A warm mug of tea with milk and sugar, please!
Passing around freshly baked scones and cookies
The fruits of labor from within the kitchen
Sisters and mothers and aunts and nieces and
Grandmother, granddaughters, all dancing around
A candle lit against the dark sky beyond
Framed amber, chiaroscuro, glorious
These are a few of my favorite things
Family and friends and tea and books
Notebooks and pens, desserts galore
The warmth of a fire, curl of smiles
Favorite things sure make me laugh
But it’s really the moments that matter most.
