Teacher, Teacher

It’s frozen over outside
and inside isn’t much better.
Warm brown eyes have hardened like leather.

You used to sit beside me and speak,
nowadays you just face me and teach.

You had said you were calculating and cold,
only now do I believe what I was told.
You were once a hand to hold.

I feel like a statistic when you talk about how
you would be this for anyone who asked for it now.

If I am nothing more than
just another student,
then let me be fucking prudent.

I’ll go ahead and walk away,
save you the trouble come May.
