Tales of Sailors

Once upon a time

the oceans were full of terror.

Sea serpents slid majestically,

underneath the hulls of ships.

Sailors with hollow eyes, drunk

recite their tales

Of monsters and serpents

Of ghosts and glowing seas.

But one tale survives longer

And more famous then the rest.

A ship sails along

Fog all around.

"Monster!"

A sea man cries.

Slithering limbs crawl

Up the sides of the ship

Breaking through the walls

Tearing down the mast

And down the ship goes

Hardly leaving a survivor

Centuries have long since past

Since the days of yore.

Monsters no longer exist.

'The Kraken? Just a myth,

'A giant squid,' All the sailors confirm.

Or at least that's what they say

Until another ship mysteriously goes down.

Myths don't exist in modern times.

At least, not when we can turn our backs to the legends of old.
