If we could but become one with all life,

And see the world through others' eyes, I wonder,

would problems seem small if we looked down

At them through the eyes of a high-soaring eagle

and felt the winds running through our face? If

Every ctizen of a developed nation

could switch places with a child soldier of the

Congo, even if for merely a day or two, one

death at their own hands would become a tragedy of human

Failure, rather than the deaths of millions just another statistic.

Empathy, sympathy, apathy. Do not analyze the reasons, do not find

its cause, do not look at the issue at hand from another point of view.

To see from the enemy's vantage point is to allow for contamination.

To allow for understanding is to falter, to empathize is to fail. Truths like

these stand in the high school cafeteria, in the aisles of so-called leaders, in the people who

Follow others.

If we but saw the world through others' eyes.
