Surprise
Location
Body still, lips are mute
Blankness in my eyes;
I pass the days
With hope that stays
Living through disguise.
But presents are best when hidden
Among the unexpected;
From life I withdrew
My real debut
To excite what I’ve protected.
What’s hidden beneath my solitude
Is none such that’s depressing;
It’s talent awaiting
Or humor escaping
But blocked by my suppressing.
Silence is only temporary
While gliding up the crest.
When moments are right
My spirits alight;
A glimmer once oppressed!
In a fleeting world, spinning
There arrives a misty daze
During which I reveal
My voice, concealed
To lure the public’s gaze.
I bring them close, enough to touch
And just before they flee,
I trigger the snare
Exposing a flare
That many deny is me.
I sing, I joke, I socialize;
I transform to the wild.
Like Jekyll and Hyde
My clean other side
Acts to reconcile.
Persistent I stay, calm I keep
Wonder in my eyes
Because some day
I may portray
A “me” without disguise.
