Sunrise Song

There are exactly 180 degrees between who I was

and who I've become.

The timid girl with lips sewn shut and a heart

built from feathers

isn't here with us anymore.

That fragile feather heart was burned

and from the ashes

I arose.

My heart is forged from fire and I can feel it raging

inside.

My laughter booms like thunder

and my smile shines like lightning.

I am the sun. I am fire. I am light.

I am so much more than I used to be.

And the heartbreak that set fire to my insides,

I am thankful for it.

I am thankful for the boy who lit the match.

Those flames flickered and burned

and scorched my veins.

And it hurt.

But I'm still here.

And I can survive anything.

You cannot outrun the sun, and there's always light

if you look for it.
