The Suicide Stare
Look at her shoes, look at her hair
Look at her clothes, not that one, her right there….
They talk and talk not knowing the truth, but
Did even think to ask how she even got those shoes?
Can you look deeper than what you see there?
Its not always about new clothes or good hair
They don’t know who she is….
She is that one, who thinks that her mother does not care,
She is that one, whose boyfriend is no longer there,
She is that one who looks fairly normal, but when she stares,
NO ONE can know that suicide stare…
There is nothing left to want, nothing left to hold on to she thought.
Her time here is plain just worn out….
It was a bright sunny day that one particular day when that suicide stare
Became CLEAR as Day.
It was her time, she said, my time to go, but did she realize that this
Would cause even more sorrow?
Ill just reach up high, high as the ceiling and PULL,
Its only a matter of time…..
Look at her shoes
Look at her hair
It doesn’t matter she is no longer here……
Without a goodbye and care in the world, she left this world thinking no one would care
Its too late to change her mind,
That time has come and gone.
Now we all wish we knew that suicide
That suicide stare.

The fixation on the subject's shoes, dress, and hair is subtle, but a very effective reflection of society. People tend to judge people based upon what kinds of clothing they wear and how they look, and do not bother to look past those things and get to know the real person beneath. The lines "Look at her shoes/ Look at her hair/ It doesn't matter she is no longer here..." are particularly powerful--the reader is told to focus, not on her, but on her shoes and hair. Her absence means only, then, that those shoes are gone, her appearance is gone. Is is a strong example of objectification as it happens every day to countless people, and you write of it very effortlessly in this poem. Naming the poem "The Suicide Stare", as well as ending the poem with that line, is another strong choice---people often do not see others' true selves past their outward appearances, and so cannot recognize one's feelings when they are shown. A strong poem about an unfortunate event.
