The Sufficient

The Sufficient

By: Satchel Francis

Is it wrong to gain and trust oneself?

To believe you can do all things

Is it wrong to leave the aid of others for your own?

Isn’t this independence in which our country fought for?

Are we not sufficient?

Only the week are reliant and dependant

And I am not one!

I’ve braved the uncharted waters; I’ve gone to the moon and back

I’ve done the unthinkable and can still do it again

I am sufficient and adequate

It’s the reliant one who depend on us

They’re like leeches latching on to every strong thing to help cure their insecurity

I will not be like them, nor will I let them latch on to me

I am sufficient and adequate

I’m like the young Masai man consigned to a period of isolation

The outcome is great strength and pride

Although the road will be rugged and narrow the most sufficient one will come on through

You must be adequate, brave, strong, smart, and wise

In all you must be sufficient if you want to survive
