They say candles bring peace and so I dug some out from the back of the linen closet,

lost under a shuffle of old rags and never-been-touched placemats.


I had to light the candles with the blunt end of a pencil because we ran out of matches.

P.S. “snuggly sweater” just smells like soap.


Had to scavenge for quarters under white washed machines at The Laundry Mat,

a fist full of change for a couple of stray pens and a green pad of paper


(green was on sale – what a bargain)


so maybe finally I can calm down


because I can’t burn a pen until the ink runs dry.


The plastic smells like sulfur and dog food, but I guess that’s the price I pay.
