Stuck in the Middle

Fri, 11/09/2018 - 19:33 -- Elise E

Half black, half white,
No one race will include me,
No one race will compose me.

I say I'm one, you tell me, be the other;
I Switch, you still don't accept me.

I heard people burn in the Sun for hours,
just to be like me,

But being a pretty color
isnt so pretty in long run.

So I guess I must learn to be both.
I will walk through the projects so dark I could hide in the shadows,

And I promise you, if a cop pulls me over, I will be so white, people will think I'm albino,
Because the law says black and white people are the same,
Advocates, just say they deserve to be.

And hear I am,
Stuck in the middle.
