Strings Attached

I should have known better than to stare into your eyes for too long

Or to read into your touch

Now I sit here, pulling at strings

But there is nothing to grab

I thought, for a moment, that I might have you

But you're nothing more than a fleeting wind

Grazing through my fingertips

Like your lips on my neck

I should avoid those blue eyes

Retract my touch

And run as fast as I can

But what am I running to?

What is there to run to?

All I feel is the emptiness around me

There's nothing poetic about being the only one reaching for strings

In the no strings attached

There's no way I can paint myself in beautiful words

Because truth is I'll latch onto anything

So for now, it's you

Until you've broken me

And I'm in the arms of the next boy who doesn't love me

I love this, I completely relate to this. While reading this I felt like you were telling my story. It honestly made my heart wrench. I love your imagery and diction. This is beautiful, beautiful and sad.
