The Strength of Thoth

I walk out into the night,

A distant bird wispheres a tune,

I look into the Nile beyond,

Mirrored within is the boundless moon,

An inspiration sparkes, and yet I

Find seeping sorrow restraining my smile.

Behind, is my home where I

Face loving opposition day and night,

A laboring family rejects my tune.

Dissonance strikes deep as the moon

Brightens through the inky sky beyond.

Griping my lute with a smile,

The distant bird grows nearer. I

Turn as his deliberate, wispy tune

Rings louder in my ears beyond,

His silhouette sharpens with the night,

I realize as the desolate moon

Transitions, and it’s ruler, Thoth, smiles.

A bird, he chirps his tune-

I instantly play into the night.

He tells me through his smile-

“Listen, you’re destined for the moon.

Your music will be heard beyond

This tiny city!” He sings, I

Play. My music chimes international tunes.

Opposition has turned to fame- I

Hear it guide the festive nights.

Faces turn from sorrow to smiles-

It strikes deep like the moon

Had stricken my youth and beyond.

Despite pessimistic familial cries, Thoth’s smile

Gives me strength. With persistence, I

embrace my gift. Slowly, my nights

Grow quieter, and yet my tune

Rises softly with the weaving moon

Like the Nile’s tide drifting beyond

I see beyond, my heart’s tune-

Weighed upon, light as the moon,

At the end of the night,

I die with a smile on my face after all.
