Steadfast

An Excerpt from "The Writ" by Paul Gray

A man may set to mind a task and bring his back to bear
To make provision, clothe and feed those felled beneath his care

What sanctioned quest shall interfere with that which he must do
In such a chore my heart has found what it would do for you

This pain called love yet so desired hath brought an ill felt hurt
Yet while my heart hath pined for thee, still with this sorrow flirt

How monumental vast this chasm stretched before my heart
Yet patiently I wait for thee till death its peace impart
