Starving Artist

I’ve traced the veins up your arms

The angles of your jaw

The slope of your cheekbones

The basin of your forehead

The curves of your sides

The length of your limbs

Over and over

Again and again

But I haven’t quite painted

The perfect picture of you yet

Because like any vast landscape

You are impossible capture

Within four corners

And straight edges

So I try to take in

As much as I can

When I’m with you

Because I know well

You can’t recreate

a picture so perfect
