Standardized Testing

It's Benchmark time again

Let the pain begin

Let the boredom sink in

And your thoughts turn grim

We thank you gods of state

For the test we now take

We will try not to shake

No noise shall we make

We'll sit here and smile

For quite a long while

You've given us this trial

Stomachs full of bile

You want us to test

And all do our best

But what if our best

Isn't up to the rest

We have to fit this mold

"Just conform," we're told

And if one would be bold

He's put in a hold

It's ok to be different

We're so often told

Be yourself, be unique

Because "normal" gets old

But that's not so in testing

We must all be the same

We'll be punished if we don't join

In Uncle Sam's little game

See, being different is cool

And that includes in school

Being brainwashed by the government

Is what makes you a tool

For writing this poem

I'll prolly get shot

Beat up, cut down

Or locked in a box

I'm not good at English or Math

I'm not made the same way

So you can keep your dumb test

And have a nice day
