Stage Fright

Fight The Fear Slam Poetry Scholarship

By Julianne Rosko

I stand in front of the crowd

I hear some people cheering

for this was the very moment

that I had been fearing

my hands gripped tight on the microphone

as I wave to the audience and say “hello”

I close my eyes and let the music fill my ears

I knew this was my moment, waiting for me right here

I belt out the lyrics

feeling the song radiate through my body

I put on quite the performance

as if I had ten cups of coffee

my fear was gone, I let it go

and never would it return to any of my other shows
