Springtime Barricades

To scream, I could only wish

my mouth, forever silenced

by duct tape and lead,

remains a barrier

between myself and the world

between my heart and my head.

If only I could, I would remake myself,

remold my mouth, my body

into a perfect form of happiness

cheeks round with sunshine smiles and laughlines.

If only I were a god amongst men--

better yet, that we were all gods,

reshaping the world around us.

Would we ever be satisfied?
