A Sonnet to Justice
Why must my country fall in love with wars?
Why must we kill to suppress our anger?
Is the fight just they brought it to our shores?
Red trucks raced in a cloudless September
Images of that day are seared in our minds
Towers collapse, bodies litter the streets
Ten years later behind enemy lines
Troops kill a man seeking vengeance laced peace
Should I rejoice in the death of a man?
He started a war, and killed my brothers
I pray.. acts of peace reflex in our hands
But peace died when the planes struck the towers
We say “fight for peace until peace has won! ”
Could kill us all but justice has been done.
