Something Nonphysical

What is the one thing you can’t live without?

Is it your heart beating in your chest or the air in your lungs?

Or is it something more?

Is it possible that you could ever need something

In a way that is nonphysical

Something that can be heard or read, but not always understood

Something that has dissonance and harmony

And that will transfer both of these things to your very soul

But only if you listen

Music understands confusion

It is organized but not always entirely right

And doesn’t need words to spread its message

A requiem is pain and grief

A ballad is a story

A lullaby is sound asleep

They can be short or long or small or tall

They can be sweet or they can be bitter

They can be whatever you want them to be

Maybe that’s why I am so attached

Maybe that’s why I need music the way I need the blood rushing through my veins

Music has become my life

Music is a heartbeat that will never die

When I pass on, my music will play on

And when everything else fails me, music is all I need
