Someone

Standing there looking down at light

then looking up and seeing the dark night.

So high up, so far from the ground

so close to the end, to never being found.

Finally decided to take a step forward,

mind made up—will never be a coward.

Knees bent, ready to fall,

was so close to leaving it all:

Then I realized someone was with me,

telling me to stop, to think, to see.

I paused—looked down at the light

I thought—looked up into the dark night...

...then took a step back, turned around,

and ran until I was safely on the ground.

And now I say, when I look back

that the love of that someone

is something I'll never lack.
