Snake Charmer

I remeber the first time when

I looked Fear in the eyes

This entity looked like a bear

Its ugly face with fangs of terror

Bit down on my skin

Leaving a scar to last forever.

The second time its yellow gaze

Dared to meet my own

I thought for sure that I would win

With a power all my own

But I was still young and dumb

And Fear was never one creature, but a hundred

As this Fear took the shape of a human

He struck me across the face

Again and again

I ran away crying but determined

To beat Fear

No matter how many things it became

No matter how many times they hit, or scratched, or bit

Until one time she took the form of a snake

And reared her sleek head

I felt something change within me

I once again stared into its eyes, and realized they were my own

But I didnt want to win anymore,

I wanted her to stay and make me better than before

And I began to sway

To the beat of some song I had never heard until then

And the snake swayed with me

Until she had wrapped around my arm

The bond between me and her

Made everything better

All the fruit tastes sweeter,

The sights more beautiful

With the black cobra of Fear draped across my shoulders

Her electrfying energy filling my heart and soul with a thrumming

That sounds coincidentally like drumming

As we march along paths both beaten and new

We became each others armor

As the Serpent of Fear and its Snake Charmer.
