Sincerely, Charles Darwin

The fllwing poem is two Elizabethan sonnets placed back-to-back.

Evolution favors those most adept.

It favors those with knowledge to move on.

So while the giraffes with the short necks slept,

The long-necked pranced toward red and roaming sun.

Now evolution performs tasteful tricks.

The finches’ beaks allow them to consume,

And beavers find a perfect job for sticks,

As hollow trees do not supply much room.

The animals are techies in themselves;

They mold out ways to better their own lives.

They use the knowledge swiped from lofty shelves,

And locate prime locations for their hives.

But all the while the animals keep pace,

Lagging behind is our human race.

Communication is a cure for strife.

Us humans do get smarter everyday.

And while brains lead to more comfort in life,

The Marks and Steves praise artificial ways.*

While something with no single brain at all,

Grows a neck very enviously long,

Our short windpipes swing hard and miss the ball

And so machines prove Mr. Darwin wrong.

As we survive and find out hollow trees,

Media gathers sticks and builds a dam.

As we “move up” we really fall to knees

And bow to drones processing upper hands.

The girls say Instagram is fabulous,

Though we, or it, will hasten death for us.

*Referring to technology and social media pioneers Mark Zuckerberg and Steve Jobs.

Sorry, it was supposed to be "following" at the very beginning, not "fllwing."
