I heard all things in the heaven and in the earth
Passion was there
I loved with caution—with foresight
And every morning, when the day broke
I could scarcely contain my feelings

The beating of a heart
That’s something with awe
I knew it well
I felt the presence
I breathed, I smiled
A light heart
It grew quicker and quicker, and louder and louder every instant
I thought it might just burst
I gasped for breath
The noise steadily increased
But anything was better than this agony!

I placed my hand upon the heart
It was a low, dull, quick sound
There was no pulsation

Silence
