Set Sail

I honestly don’t care,

If my dress set sail,

I had hauled in anchor,

I had let down my ponytail,

My course was set,

The stars became my guide;

The moon gave me a push,

With her gentle tide.

The sea foam and spray,

Misted my deck rails,

He left his light kiss,

On my highest topsails.

My heart fired every cannon,

When you cried out,

“Land ho!”

All I could do was shout.

We washed ashore the beach,

You jumped onto the sand,

I bundled my skirts,

And you held out your hand.

I glanced at my wadded dress,

I let it fall into the water, my gown,

I grasped your sweaty palm,

And watched my hems drown.

And instead of hopping off,

I leaped with great joy,

Right into your arms,

Into the arms of my cabin boy.
