Serenity

A downward glance, an upturned lip,

Branches framing the sky,

A gentle laugh, a stolen peek,

Hours slipping on by.

A feeling of peace, open and pure,

Filling my heart and my soul,

A scene serene, familiar yet strange,

Promising somethings untold.

No masks to put on, no need to obscure,

No more walls that cannot be climbed,

No need to filter, to change or amend

The thoughts that first come to my mind.

No need to hide the truths locked inside,

To keep them from slipping away,

No need to control the person I show,

Not when I'm here, not today.

Today I am free to just be myself,

With all of my quirks and my flaws.

Today I am free to open my heart,

To just be myself, without pause.
