Self-Control

Wed, 03/19/2014 - 14:59 -- Fahiru

You can't suppress their needs
They said
Boys will be boys
They say this as if
There's nothing wrong
With letting people
Have their way
Never telling of death
And consequence.

What sort of parent
Takes their child
To a brothel
To make them a man?
What kind of parent
Tells their child
That there are plenty of fish
In the sea?
You speak of individuals
And objectify your friends
Men
Women
Children
Each had a life
Wanted to be told
That they were meant
For so much more
But you laugh
And say
Who needs discipline
And self-control?
Love is fleeting
And fake
And you take what you can
Without a backward glance

Trucks and wagons
Bring the cargo
You drink with your friends
And sleep with a prostitute
Never thinking about
The youth of their face
The loss of their life
And how soon
They are going
To die
You laugh it off
And say
It's their job
You think they wanted
To be treated this way?
You think they're just
Your toy?

How dare you say
Boys will be boys
How dare you let
Your daughter's immodesty
Run rampant
How dare you
How dare you

You take drinks from strangers
They'll drag you away
And you are someone else's
Toy.
