Selective Deafness

No one tells you

What it’s like

No one warns you

That it hurts

No one tries

To prevent your pain

Your hunger

The reign

Of horror the illness

Brings to your body

No one warns you

About how it feels

To starve

Or maybe

Maybe they do

And you just don’t listen

Maybe they tried

Maybe they cared

But your selective deafness

Fared better than your conscience
