Seacrhing in All the Wrong Places

Searching In All The Wrong Places

Now lay me down to sleep
I praise the lord my soul he'll keep
If i die before i wake
I praise the lord, my soul he'll take

She prays this prayer every night, before the sun comes
and it's because she is H. I. V. positive
But what she doesn't know is that
Their are 83% of blacks just like her

She never paid attention to when the teacher taught
obedience and self confidence
scratching it on the chalk broad
back and forth back and forth back and forth

she never paid attention to when the teacher was teaching her
how to be a woman
because a woman's worth is kneeling down for nickels and dimes
the only thing she paid attention to was who was going to be her first baby's daddy

Because she had a walk
like Byonce
shaking goodies and changes falling from her pockets
did you know that you smell like suicide
and have you seen your reflection lately
you look like something God was to afraid to create

Because if he created you, 28% of our black males
would not be infected with
sexually transmitted destruction
did you know that your mother
sit on your old rocking knitting shame of her daughters reflection
But if i was your mother i would strip sexiness from underneath her
vocabulary, and made sure i tagged tic-tac- toe on her behind
run pain from your scalp
and rip sin off your back
play the plague on the side of your rib cages

because it isn't love
to solute to flags from between your tithes
the flag that stained my baby's eyes red
dotted your heart and bleached her body white

you became a subject to Satan
bowing down on all fours like his dog
worshiping him in his every needs
sister do you remember the song you prayed to God to answer
Amazing Grace shall always be my song of praise
He looks beyond all my faults and saw my needs
she wanted to be loved, By you
