Scales
Proverbs 3:7-8
7 Do not be wise in your own estimation;
fear the Lord and turn away from evil.
8 This will bring healing to your body,
and refreshment to your inner self.
On a scale from zero to ten … ten being the highest
How close is my communication with the Lord?
It is difficult to imagine … that a higher ranking
Of one or a little less… would throw me overboard
If zero is the best I can be … would I not be the weakest?
Is this not the condition … for God to make me strong?
Is it not here I see … where my flesh is demeaning
In the power of God’s creed … and His security all along?
Did He not calm the storm … for them with little faith?
Did He not walk on water … to give a helping hand?
Did He not feed the needy … when hungry and delayed?
Did He not love the lepers … that none could understand?
Is it not pride that rates … self higher than ought to be?
Is it not a form of selfishness … to push closer to the Lord of all?
Would it not be better … with our tears to wash His Feet?
And to remain under His table … to gather crumbs as they fall
Is not a place of honor … for them that He calls?
Is it not His choice … who will sit close to Him?
Is His arm so short … that He can’t reach across the table?
To provide for all of those … who sit down to dine with Him?
Is it not how close we are to Him … that really is the issue?
But to truly realize … that He carries us through this life
As He whispers in our ears … is it His voice we’re hearing
Or only a sense the noise … of our selfish chosen cries
Let me be a zero … truly helpless as can be.
Let Him be a number … beyond comprehension
Let me live by His faith … and not by how I feel
Let my life become … a complete song of devotion
