Sandy

In one moment, all was lost.
The waves began to build, and washed over the shore.
Buildings were no more, tunnels became water tanks.
Fires took homes, many left in the cold.
One moment being late was a struggle.
The next finding a place to sleep on a gym floor.
Here I sit in warmth, a blanket and a cup of tea,
A bed and blankets and all my belongings.
There she sits with her one doll and her family.
Trying to stay warm, trying to find something to eat.
Devastation.
Destruction.
Desperation.
All the results of nature’s cruel anger.
Take the time, use the money, sacrifice the comfort.
Bless someone who in a moment’s notice lost all.
You never know when you may be sitting on that gym floor
With just your blanket and only half your family.
