Root Rot

My family tree has root rot

And it’s dying around me

Wizened leaves are being torn

From limbs by bitter winds

That drag them down

To rest on frost tipped grass

Where they will freeze

Into a cruel mockery

Of what once was.

Thick roots push eagerly

Through barren earth

But there is only

Suffocating concrete and dusty soil

That will not offer any support
