Rolling Rocks

Location

206 MEADOW VIEW LANE
United States

They didn't bother anyone; buried for thousands of years

Covered with soil and sediment

Content

Asleep

Secure

Deep.

Thousands of years they lay while above grew grass and trees

Feet plodded, deer leaped, birds flew...

It was this way every day, until today.

Excavator teeth biting deep removing soil and clay

Revealing with a scrape, many rocks woke from their sleep

Grabbed with a bucket and with a heave, broke free.

So many saw daylight for the first time, many felt light and free

And then?

The release!

Over the bank they were tossed, rolling and bouncing

Leaping high and crashing into a far bank

And I swear to you that if you could hear over the sound of the machine

you would have heard

"Whee!"
