The Road I've Taken

I peered down a narrow path.

It stirred, it quaked,

Split right in half.

Gone were my inhibitions, I tried to brake,

Lost control, I hit a wall.

Turned back to find I’d lost my way.

No longer was I able to stall.

Like always, I knew I was late

There are days I did not go

But today the road had decided my fate,

It had best not fucking snow.

For those who do not know,

I had yet to drive this road

I thought to myself, “there must be a reason”,

“Another depression episode?”

Can’t be that, must just be the season.

I looked to the left, and glanced to my right,

As I ran across the street

Horns honked and brakes screeched,

I must have looked a fright.

A vision no doubt

In gown and tassels,

Heels two inches high,

Running up a grass hill

I heard a crack, my mouth released a cry.

Stumbling, I did not fall

I must continue on,

For if I don’t, I’ll have to crawl

And won’t get there til dawn.

Nearing the procession, no time for retreat,

No time to change my mind

Finally, I found my seat;

It’s graduation time.
