A Riddle

You dance in the moonlight

We gather around you and watch the stars

You swirl and leap and reach for the sky

And we eye you carefully

One false move

And it’s lights out

We feed you slowly

And you roar with hunger

Hunger that is too much to bear

So you escape

Food the only thing on your mind

You run through the countryside

Consuming all you can find

Growing stronger and more powerful with every morsel

Prepared to swallow the earth

You leave naught but black footsteps behind

That, and the smell of smoke.
