Revenge is Not

Revenge is cold.

Revenge is hot.

Revenge tends to feel nice

until it does not.

Revenge is what we all wish for

when looking for comfort,

from the person who wronged us

or the system that made us hurt.

Revenge is a call, from anger and irrationality,

that doesn't push a solution but keeps us all stagnant.

Revenge seems nice, when it's giving a fake facade.

Convincing you that their suffering is what you really want.

It sounds nice, until you observe

the lengths they try to go

to rebuild themselves from the earth.

Just like you did, when they pushed you down.

They look sad, and disheartened,

now that they can't get off the ground.

Seeing someone else hurt, who probably hurt you,

Resembles a good idea

Until your own image is what you're looking into.

Revenge can look like your stepping stones to reach the top,

back where you began

before they stole crucial piece

from where you were to stand.

But Revenge hides a secret, that you have to figure out.

That if you send each other tumbling,

you will all lie on the ground.

No one will climb

to the very top,

or feel like the best when you see your community drop.

You and those you once saw hold out your pain,

will all lay at ground level,

feeling each other's shame.

When looking up, what you may see,

is the person you now strive to be.

The person who chose maturity,

instead of karma coming around.

The person you see, looking down upon you all,

is reaching over, to help you off the ground.
