The Rest of Forever

Days like this
Welcome thoughts that push down on my spine
Covered in a blanket of my fears
That just doesn't seem to cover my feet
I pull
And pull
The fabric is shrinking
Smaller and smaller
Until my delicate hands
Are stripped raw
The salt from my nonexistent tears
Stain my eyes
With clouded thoughts
And the dark green canopy
Of melancholy forests
That trap the beating hearts of young people
Who will never know better
Returning to life with hollow chest cavities
And sad eyes
Abandoned homes
Lacking safety we need
Doomed to walk the streets
Searching for their broken hearts
Not fully appreciating
The sunsets that turn the sky into
Abstract oil paintings
Or the sunrises
Where everything is silent
And bittersweet
And the light can hit the canvas just right
To make the paint glisten
And occupy eyes for the rest of forever
