Religious Liberty

Through opposition,
A people were humbled
And against tradition
Their grievances mumbled
Despite scorn and abuse
They did steadfastly refuse
To die in captivity
While begging help from divinity
So set on their course
They sailed many waters
To the land of the wild horse
And of liberty sons and daughters
With hopeful hearts
They did succeed and could not part
From the faith of their first see
But Jealousy and greed
Of their mother country did proceed
A battle for freedom
Wherein our people did exceed them
Through smoke and sorrow
An emblem stood
Embodying the title of tomorrow
Dust shaken from times past
It proclaimed the great words at last
“In memory of our God,
Our religion, and freedom,
Our peace,… and our children”
The words stand true today
As long as we seek
To love God and his ways
And choose to be meek
We are free…
We are strong…
But do we see?
Or do we long?
We have religious liberty!
We should instead sing a triumphant song!
