Red Stringed Snow Globe

The universe is cruel

It taunts me with your existence

It has us joined together by a red string

That begins to tug at our hearts the second that we are in the process of moving on

I can kick at the world and turn my wrists to pulps of tangled veins

Yet you stay connected to me

With that red string

Tugging me into a deep abyss

I'd gone years viewing this world as a snow globe and you as Atlas

You would take the globe into your hands and admire its fragility

And smile at me -

the figurine -

the crouched shadow that was frozen with a gaping mouth

and when you no longer can stand my serenity

you shake the globe

rattling my independence

and cracking my smile

chipping away my hope

Yet still the universe cannot erase my knowledge that you're existence is here

The red string will not snap and it pains me to know that I will move on and still be connected to you

I will remain another snow globe on your shelf

Of millions
