red hook

Location

everyday

i ride the F train to Brooklyn

when i think of red hook

i think of red hook projects everytime the F train leaves carroll street, and goes overground

once the F train goes outside, i can see the long strip of smith street

as it curves to 9th street, you know that hook

i can see the highway crystal clear

and right behind it , it's red hook projects

looks like a small city from distance surrounded by puffy clouds , and clear blue skies

even at night time, it looks magnificant

in my eyes, it's beauty

in others, it's survival of the fittest where one is afraid to be the next victim of ongoing onslaughts of senseless violent crimes that remains to be endless

a homeboy took a group of young men to a youth court in educating about the criminal judicial system

and what happens yesterday afternoon

in broad daylight

a young man gets stab by another goof

who happens to live right across the street from red hook youth court

we all know he's was not the brightest

he got caught

the victim in slow motion drop to the ground

gasping for air

thankfully, none of my young men were hurt or kill

they were already inside ready to change the world

when asked about the incident

they became aware, and at the same time, were comfortable that they were in safe hands that was not spilled with blood

i was very proud of my young men

they saw beyond the slavemaster call Ignorance that continues to whip people without ropes like government mules

they are ready to change the world

i knew that there is hope

while people define red hook as the color that compunds death in a blink of an eye

they contradict their ideological theories in justifying their excuses to upgrade crime rates

in my eyes, red hook is a small town surrounded by projects that intimidates people to live poorly
