Recovery

Upon the line you signed your name
Then with noble thought and purposeful tread
You thought to give the cause your strength
But taken were blood and leg instead

The wounded heart with fevered brow
Pitches in pain the whole day through
While others continue to sign that line
Without so much as a regard for you

The silent message you've become
Words of warning left unspoken
That more than soldiers are at stake
And much more than bones shall be broken

So, lucky, mend you back your skin
Recuperate from the cut of steel
While nurses tend to hurts gone deeper
With words for wounds that will never heal.
